Land baron Michael O'Hara (Charles Colburn) thought he had contracted for a plump old opera singer from NYC to come to celebrate the opening of his opera house, but he and everyone else is stunned when the beautiful Lillian Marlowe (Yvonne De Carlo) steps out of the stagecoach! Lily immediately sets out on a mission: to marry the future richest man in Arizona Territory! There are two candidates for this distinction: Grant and Lee O'Hara (John Russell and Scott Brady, respectively), two cousins who control equal halves of Arizona, but are still under the thumb of their grandfather, the aforementioned land baron. The two cousins feud over everything and it doesn't take them long to begin feuding over the sultry De Carlo (who can blame them?). The feud threatens to start a civil war within the state and everyone works trying to prevent this with little success. Eventually it is revealed that Lily is hiding a secret, but that doesn't stop the two competing cousins from letting their tempers explode in a brutal two-fisted finale!

One of the reasons I began my movie business years ago was to help raise awareness of certain neglected entertainers and their works. One of those at the top of the list has always been the amazing Yvonne De Carlo. Known only to most as Lilly Munster, she was so much more - so talented, beautiful, magnificent - and what an absolute DISGRACE that the Academy Awards did not even notice her death during the 2007 remembrance ceremony. SHAMEFUL. Here we have the perfect vehicle for De Carlo to display her many talents - a fun, lighthearted western with plenty of opportunities for her to sing, dance, and look amazing. She gets to show her chops at humor here, too. The two cousins battling each other for the affection of De Carlo is both funny and dramatically believable. And the telling of the story from three different points of view is superbly done. In my opinion, this is one of Yvonne's most under-rated films.
